This course is ideal for students with a serious interest in Theatrical and Media Makeup (with hairdressing).

Who The Course is for

This course is for anyone interested in Theatrical Make-up with hairdressing. This is a very intensive course and learners must be able to give 100% commitment to their studies.

• be diplomatic and tactful in order to cope with nervous performers
• enjoy working with a variety of people.

Course Content

The course content includes:
• Health & Safety
• Working in related industries
• Camouflage make up
• Airbrushed face make up
• Designing face & body art
• Fashion and photographic make up
• Creative hair and design
• Media make up
• Style and dress hair
• Client care and communication skills
• Special effects (college award)

All students must wear the college uniform, which is:

• Long smart black trousers (Purchased by student)
• College tunic (Purchased from the department)
• Low heeled full black smart shoes (Purchased by student)
• Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery including facial piercing during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish.

Mobile phones must not be accessed in classrooms and salons unless permission has been sought from the course coordinator.

If the above is not adhered to you will be asked to leave the salons.

A certain level of manual dexterity will be required for this course.

Trips and Placement are essential to the course and not optional.

Entry Requirements

If you are 16-18 a minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade C or above preferably in English and maths, however candidates will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course. All applicants must have an artistic flair and will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course.

Students must be able to work effectively with others and be willing to carry out and receive all treatments. You will also be require to carry out treatments on male clients.

All students must display a positive attitude, be prepared to work as part of a team and have excellent attendance.

West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Learning & Assessment Methods

Assessment is by practical observation; oral questioning and written essential knowledge papers. Assignemtns will also be required. End examinations set by the awarding body. An internal and external verifier will assess a portfolio of evidence and your practical skills.

Level 3 Diploma in Media Make up and Hair.

Other courses such as photographic make-up or progression onto higher advanced courses.

This course is for people who are looking to develop their skills and qualifications, and are seeking careers in make-up design for film, television, theatre or fashion.

Course Costs

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.

Enrichment courses are available at an additonal cost.

Students will also be required to purchase additonal stationery items.
