This course is designed to provide a relevant qualification for people who are working as a classroom assistant, or for those working in a voluntary capacity in a classroom situation. It is also open to those who have no previous relevant experience, but who wish to train as teaching assistants.

Who The Course is for

This course is ideal for candidates interested in furthering their career in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Course Content

Students will complete 11 mandatory units:

> Understand child and young person development
> Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
> Support children and young people's health and safety
> Engage in personal development in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's settings
> Support learning activities
> Promote children and young people's positive behaviour
> Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
> Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
> Support assessment for Learning
> Communication and professional relationships with children,young people and adults
> Schools as organisations

The course requires learners to complete a suitable placement within a school, working with children ages 4+.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements but a level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification is recommended.

West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Learning & Assessment Methods

This qualification is assessed through a Portfolio of Evidence.

Qualifications Gained

NCFE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
