This course is designed to provide a relevant qualification for people who are working as a classroom assistant, or for those working in a voluntary capacity in a classroom situation. It is also open to those who have no previous relevant experience, but who wish to train as teaching assistants.

Who The Course is for
This qualification prepares learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for employment as a teaching assistant.
Course Content
Students will comple 9 Mandatory Units, plus 2 Optional Units:
> Child & young person development
> Support learning activities
> Safeguarding the welfare of children & young people
> Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
> Equality, Diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
> Help improve own and team practice in schools
> Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
> Support children and young people's health and safety
> Support children and young people's positive behaviour
The course requires learners to complete a suitable placement within a school, working with children ages 4+.
Entry Requirements
A reasonable standard of English and maths is required.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
This qualification is assessed through a Portfolio of Evidence.
Qualifications Gained
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Progression Opportunities
Learners may wish to progress onto the NCFE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Career Opportunities
This qualification prepares students with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for employment in this sector.
