This award is aimed at candidates who:
• Would like or require an introduction to teaching/training/tutoring in the lifelong learning sector or
• Are seeking career progression within their area or
• May not currently be teaching, therefore are unable to follow the related N/SVQ programme or
• Require evidence towards the underpinning knowledge for the N/SVQ in Learning and Development Level 3.

Who The Course is for
The qualification is suitable for those who want to work as:
• Teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector i.e. adult and community education, work based learning and the voluntary sector, provided they are qualified/experienced in the subject they intend to teach. The decision as to what constitutes appropriate entry qualifications/experience is at the discretion of the centre.
• Technicians and support staff in further and adult education.
• Training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector, the uniformed services or HM Forces.
Course Content
The qualification consists of 1 unit - Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements; however candidates will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
The qualification is work based and designed to demonstrate ability to perform to nationally recognised standards. Learners are required to provide a portfolio of evidence which can include personal statements, observation records of examples of reports and memos.
Qualifications Gained
City & Guilds Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Sector.
Progression Opportunities
Successful students may choose to progress onto a relevant certificate or diploma qualification.
Career Opportunities
This qualification will allow successful students to teach in either an Associated Teacher or Full Teacher role, relevant to the Lifelong Sector.
