Course Overview

Classroom studies are combined with talks by guest speakers and visits to Outdoor Activity centres and take part a variety of activities such as an outdoor camp, climbing in Snowdonia, gym and sports facilities, activity days within the public services for example Army and RAF.

Who The Course is for

This course is ideal for students looking for a career in public services, for example, HM Revenue and Customs, the police, fire and rescue services, or armed services.

Successful students tend to be:
• good at communicating with all types of people, even in difficult circumstance
• determined and logical in their approach to preventing and solving crimes
• good leaders, able to make decisions under pressure
• able to write accurate reports and deal with complex paperwork
• willing to accept discipline, without sacrificing common-sense and initiative

> Citizenship, the Individual and Society
> Land Navigation by Map and Compass
> ICT and the Public Services

Functional skills in English maths or IT will also be studied as an integral part of the course.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade D or above. Candidates will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and we will be looking for an appropriate standard of English and maths. We are interested in your enthusiasm and commitment to succeed.

Learning & Assessment Methods

Assessment will be by continuous assessment of assignment work, projects, case studies and practical activities. There are no external exams.

Qualifications Gained

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services
Tutorial & Enrichment Studies
Functional Skills in Maths, English or IT.

Progression Opportunities

Progression to Level 3 Diplomas in Public Services or Sports Studies is possible upon completion of this course at merit level or above.

Career Opportunities

Employment in public services professions, eg HM Revenue and Customs, the police, fire and rescue services or armed services are possible routes for successful students.
