The course is intended for those who wish to explore Photography as a means of artistic expression. You will study the work of other photographers and artists and use this to inspire and influence your own work. You will also learn about the theory of photography and will put this knowledge into practice on location, in the studio, darkroom and digital darkroom.

Who The Course is for
The course is intended for those who wish to explore Photography as a means of artistic expression. You will study the work of other photographers and artists and use this to inspire and influence your own work. You will also learn about the theory of photography and will put this knowledge into practice on location, in the studio, darkroom and digital darkroom.
Course Content
You will study the following units:
Unit 1 A portfolio of personal coursework
Unit 2 An externally set photographic assignment
Topics covered include:
> Camera techniques
> Black and White film developing and printing
> Darkroom techniques
> Digital Photography
> Adobe Photoshop
> Research into the context and history of Photography
> Finishing techniques
Entry Requirements
GCSE at Grade ‘C’ or above in an art related subject or. Students who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience and a portfolio of photographic work.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
You will be assessed throughout the year on your project work:
Unit1: Coursework 50% of the total mark
Unit 2: Externally set assignment 50% of the total mark.
Qualifications Gained
AS Art & Design (Photography) with the opportunity to return the following year to complete the full A Level Photography qualification.
Progression Opportunities
Progression onto year two of the A Level (3 hours per week for 30 weeks), or onto a BTEC National Diploma in Photography or Art & Design (full time programmes, typically four days a week).
Career Opportunities
There are a multitude of careers where an A level in Photography is desirable. For example, you could work in one of a number of arts-based and creative fields, involving working as a Freelance or Corporate Photographer, working in publishing or production as well as in the fashion or film industry

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.
