Who The Course is for
Successful students tend to:
• have practical skills and good hand skills
• be able to follow technical drawings, building plans, and other instructions
• be fit and strong enough to carry tools and materials
Course Content
You will study level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, Functional Skills Level 1 in application of number and communications. Areas covered include:
• Health and Safety within the construction industry
• Stacking and storing materials and equipment
• The construction industry
• Carry out first fixing operations:- doors, skirting, locks etc
• Carry out second fixing:- roofing , windows etc
• Erect structural carcassing
• Carry out maintenance
• Set up and operate a circular saw
All elements are assessed and must meet Construction Awards Alliance standards.
Entry Requirements
Recognised Level 1 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery.
All successful candidates will be interviewed and selected for the course.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
• Assessment is via multiple choice examination and practical tests
• Awarding body phase test
• Portfolio of knowledge
Qualifications Gained
On completion of the course students will have gained a Technical Certificate Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery qualification (Construction Awards Alliance).
Functional Skills
Progression Opportunities
Successful students may progress onto the Level 3 diploma in Carpentry and Joinery.
Career Opportunities
This course may allow students to gain employment within the construction industry.
This course may allow students to move on to an apprenticeship.

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.
