Course Overview

The Edexcel Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care is designed to provide opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge which are transferable and will enable individuals to meet changing circumstances, whether these arise from a shift in their own status or employment, or general changes in care practice, provision or environment. It also provides opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment as a care worker.

Who The Course is for

Those who wish to gain a recognised qualification in Care and who would like to progress onto a Level 3 course.

Course Content

Students will study 4 compulsory units plus 4 optional units.

• Communication in Health & Social Care
• Individual Rights in Health & Social Care
• Individual needs in Health & Social Care
• Ensuring Safe Environments in Health & Social Care

Functional skills in English, Maths and it will also be studied as an integral part of the course.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 3 GCSE’s at Grade D or above. Candidate will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and we will be looking for an appropriate standard of English and maths. We are interested in your enthusiasm and commitment to succeed.

West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Learning & Assessment Methods

Assessment will be by continuous assessment of assignment work, projects, case studies and practical activities. There are no external exams.

Tutorial & Enrichment Studies
Functional Skills in English, Maths or IT

Progression Opportunities

Successful completion of the course may allow progression to the Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

This course will help you gain employment in the health and social care area. It provides a basis for further study and will help you develop the skills essential for working in the caring services.
