Who The Course is for
Those who wish to gain a recognised qualification in Care

Course Content
The course consists of 10 small units, which will be delivered in 5-week blocks. The units cover a range of care topics including:
• Health needs.
• Learning experiences for children and young people.
• Creative activities for children.
• Communication with adults and children in Health & Social Care.
• Managing your health at work.
• Personal care in Health & Social Care.
• Job opportunities in Health & Social Care.
• Creative and leisure activities for adults in Health & Social Care.
• Health & Social Care needs.
Functional skills in English, maths and IT will also be studied as an integral part of the course.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but a reasonable standard of English and maths is expected, plus the enthusiasm and commitment to succeed. All candidates will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Tutorial & Enrichment Studies
Functional Skills in English, Maths and IT.
Progression Opportunities
The Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Health & Social Care can combine well with GCSE’s, NVQ’s and other health related qualifications. Combined with any of these it supports progression to the Edexel Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care, Children's Care, Learning & Developmemt Level 2 Diploma or employment in the health and social care sector.
Career Opportunities
If you would like to pursue a career in one of the caring professions, you would normally need to undertake further study and voluntary work; but if you wish to progress straight to employment, you could apply for a position as a care assistant or nursing assistant.

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.
