Who The Course is for
Those students who want to progress to higher education, career advancement or management in Hairdressing/Beauty Therapy Salons.
Course Content
The full Diploma is streamlined into four industry pathways:
Management
Hairdressing
Media make up
Beauty therapy ( Beauty Therapy is certificated by VTCT)
The full Diploma is studied over two years and comprises of the following mandatory and optional units:
*Any of the following units can also be studied to gain individual awards. Awards contribute towards achievement of the full Diploma.

Unit 401 Quality management of client care in the hair and beauty sector
Unit 402 Salon management
Unit 412 Sales management in the hair and beauty sector
Unit 413 public relations in the hair and beauty sector
Unit 414 management of health, safety and security in the salon
Unit 304 research in the hair and beauty sector
Unit 305 marketing in the hair and beauty sector
Management optional units:
Each unit involves research independent study supported by the course tutor.
The candidate will choose between 2- 4 of the units below dependant on credit value:
Unit 403 chemistry of hair and beauty products
Unit 404 hair colour correction
Unit 405 manage the creation of a hair style collection
Unit 406 hair and scalp specialist services
Unit 407 physiology of ageing
Unit 307 human resource management

Entry Requirements
This Higher Level Qualification has been designed primarily for those in work, or with access to work experience as the specifications are vocationally relevant to the needs of the sector.
This qualification will require a high level of understanding, written work and skills. It is likely that in order for prospective candidates to cope with the demands of the programme and achieve their full potential, they should have achieved one of the following:
• Level 3 S/NVQ in Hairdressing/Beauty Therapy.
• Level 3 Apprenticeship/Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.
• Level 3 in Complementary Therapies
• Level 3 Theatrical & Media Make-up
• Proof of 5 years experience in any of the above sectors.
Prospective candidates should be able to demonstrate that they are sufficiently mature, capable and motivated to meet the requirements of the programme and should be able to provide evidence of a range of relevant practical skills.
Learning & Assessment Methods
You will learn through a variety of different methods including: Formal lectures, Practical sessions, Classroom activity, Distance learning / research, Seminars, Discussions/debates, Group work.
Candidates will be assessed through: Written reports, essays, presentations, vocationally based projects and case studies.
Qualifications Gained
5450 Level 4 Diploma in Management Practice & Advanced Techniques in the Hair & Beauty Sector - Part Time.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Progression Opportunities
At the end of the course, successful students should be able to demonstrate to prospective employers that they have the personal skills, experience and academic background to meet the needs of the industry. After successful completion of the course students may wish to progress onto a full Foundation Degree in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Management.

Management in spas, salons, teaching, retailing, technical demonstrators.
