Who The Course is for
This is a 2 year course for those interested in careers in Forensic Science. The programme is designed to develop the knowledge and understanding for a career as a science technician or within the Forensic Science Sector.

• Using mathematical tools in science
Specialist Units:
• Using statistics in science
• Forensic evidence collection and analysis
• Criminology
• Forensic photography
• Criminal psychology
• Practical chemical analysis
• Chemical laboratory techniques
• Physiology of human body systems
• Applications of forensic psychology
• Forensic fire investigation
• Criminal investigation procedures
• Criminal investigation in practice
• Genetic and genetic engineering
Learners will be required to purchase a forensic science kit at a cost of approximately £50.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (preferably including English and must include maths); or a GNVQ Intermediate/First Diploma Level 2 at a merit or distinction in a related subject; or equivalent qualifications. Candidates will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
Theory and laboratory work. Continuous assessment by coursework/assignment.

Students may wish to progress into employment within the sciences or onto a degree or diploma course in Science or Forensic Science subjects.
