Who The Course is for
This course is ideal for school leavers and adults and over who have completed their compulsory school education. It is also suitable for anyone with an interest in Applied Science who wishes to progress to further education or employment.
Course Content
All students study the following subjects:
- Scientific Principles
- Science and the World at Work
- Chemistry Applications
- Physical Sciences Applications
- Biological Systems
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Functional Skills
Entry Requirements
A minimum of 3 GCSE’s at Grade D or above including Science or an equivalent science-related qualification. Candidate will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and we will be looking for an appropriate standard of English and maths. We are interested in your enthusiasm and commitment to succeed.
Learning & Assessment Methods
This course is taught through a mixture of classes, lab practicals and project work. There are also some field trips and company visits.
You are also expected to do assignment work in you own time.
Qualifications Gained
If you successfully complete the course you will gain a BTEC Diploma Level 2 in Applied Science (awarded by Edexcel), plus functional skills certificates.

Progression Opportunities
Students obtaining a Merit grade overall may progress to the National Diploma in Applied Science (Forensics) at West Lancahsire College. Alternatively you could progress to other vocational programmes.
Career Opportunities
You could work in science based industries, in careers such as laboratory work, school technicians, medical technicians and analysts.

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.
