Who The Course is for
This course is ideal for those who wish to gain employment within the Complementary Therapy profession.

Course Content
The course includes both practical and theory sessions, practical areas are performed working in the brand new Beauty Salons and stunning Therapy Rooms covering a range of practical skills.

> Principles and practice of Complementary Therapies
> Business practice for Complementary Therapies
> Pathology
> Provide Body Massage Therapy
> Reflective Practice for Body Massage
> Provide Aromatherapy
> Reflective Practice for Aromatherapy
> Provide Reflexology
> Reflective Practice for Reflexology
> Anatomy and Physiology
> Relevant Work Experience
> Home study/Case Studies
> Functional Skills (age related).
All students must purchase a relevant kit and uniform from the Beauty Therapy department. Costs will be discussed at enrolment and during the college induction.
Students will be required work in the college's realistic working environments to carry out treatments on the general public who book in as clients at our reception area. On occasions you may need to provide a paying model for your practical assessments.
Students will be working with a professional product range called Eve Taylor.
During the academic year you may be asked to complete relevant short courses. Also there will be opportunities to increase your skills portfolio.
Optional enrichment courses and trips may be available to full time students at an additional cost. Details will be available from the course leader.
Entry Requirements
3 GCSE’s at Grade C or above preferably including English, Human Biology (or another science subject) or equivalent qualifications.
Students will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course and should also be able to demonstrate the enthusiasm and commitment to this area of work.
All students must display a positive attitude, be prepared to work as part of a team and have excellent attendance.
Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery, including facial piercing, during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish. False nails are not acceptable for practical assessments.
Mobile phones must not be used in classrooms or salons.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, case studies, written essential knowledge papers, end examinations set by the examination awarding body. An internal/external verifier will assess all portfolio evidence and practical skills.

City & Guilds Level 4 in Salon Management.
If you successfully complete a Level 3 course at West Lancashire College we will offer you a place on an appropriate Foundation Degree at Newcastle College (subject to satisfactory interview).
Career Opportunities
Employment in a range of venues including health clubs, hotels, hospitals/doctor surgeries and cruise ships.
