Course Overview

The Art & Design Level 1 Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop your personal and artistic skills. On this course you will study the Art & Design Level 1 Diploma, Level 1 Award in Personal and Social Development plus functional skills in Communication and Numeracy and ICT(at an approptriate level).

Who The Course is for

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in any aspect of Art & Design.

Course Content

Students will study a number of modules over the course of the year, these modules will introduce you to a number of specialist areas within Art & Design. These areas may include:

• Drawing and painting
• Graphics
• Multi-media
• Photography
• 3D Design
• Textiles and fashion

During the latter part of the course you will be able to specialise in one of your favourite subject areas.

Educational visits (for example to gallaries and exhibitions) are an additional part of this course.

A certain level of manual dexterity will be required for Art & Design courses.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but a reasonable standard of English and maths is expected, plus the enthusiasm and commitment to succeed. All candidates will be interveiwed to assess their eligibility for the course.

West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Learning & Assessment Methods

All units are assessed graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Qualifications Gained

BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design & BTEC Level 1 Level 1 Award in Personal and Social Development.
Functional Skills.
Tutorial and Enrichment Studies.

Progression Opportunities

This course will enable you to progress to higher level programmes such as the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.

Career Opportunities

Students may gain employment in the art and design industry.

Course Costs

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.

*exam and registration fees will be paid by the college subject to satisfactory attendance and course completion.

There is a studio fee of £75 per year levied with this course, payable within the first term. The fee includes travel to three educational visits to galleries, plus the use of a wide variety of specialist art consumables.
