This course is ideal for adult learners who wish to change career and have a desire to work in the area of Nursing.
Course Content
Course components:
• Sociology (level 2)
• Human Physiology (Level 2)
Plus Study Techniques
• Social Issues in Health Care(Level 3)
• Human Physiology(Level 3)
Plus HE Tool Kit
There will also be opportunity to study GCSE English, GCSE equivalent maths.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, although adults may prefer to begin this course after studying GCSEs or equivalent qualifications. All students will be required to attend an interview to assess their suitability for the course.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
Learning & Assessment Methods
Assessment will be by coursework and examinations. Accreditation will be by Ascentis (formally OCNW).
Qualifications Gained
Nationally recognised (QAA) Access to Higher Education Diploma - Nursing and Health Studies.

Progression Opportunities
If you successfully complete a level 3 course at West Lancashire College you are eligible to apply for an place on an appropriate Foundation Degree at either West Lancashire College or Newcastle College (subject to satisfactory interview or course audition).
There is opportunity for students to apply for a diploma or degree course in all aspects of Nursing or related areas at a range of Higher Education Institutions eg. University of Central Lancashire, Edge Hill University.
Career Opportunities
It provides opportunities for employment in all aspects of nursing and health related professions, however a student is not restricted to these professions alone and may wish to seek employment or further study in other areas.
