For one Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College Nail Services NVQ Level 3 learner, Helen Murray, exciting times lie ahead as she was recently crowned a winner at the UK National Skills Competition, in the category of Advanced Nails Techniques.
Having already finished second in the regional competition held earlier this year in Birmingham, Helen had the opportunity to put her creative skills to the test in Derby. This is where the national competition was held, here Helen exceeded her own expectations and won the title.
The long journey to the final for the 29 year old mother began months back in the Nail Technician studio at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College’s Westbank Campus, in which a nail competition took place, judged by Diane Griffiths (Beauty Therapy Programme Area Leader) and Liz Peters (Creative Service Industries Manager). This competition was devised by Lisa McKenna (Nail Services Course Leader) to enhance the students' skills and prepare them for the nail industry.
Lisa's vision for this in house competition was to allow the winner to represent the college and compete in the regional competition for the UK National Skills Advanced Nails Techniques.
Helen’s ecstatic tutor Lisa commented “We are absolutely delighted for Helen, she has done brilliantly and I’m very proud to see her confidence grow throughout the year. Helen has been a first class student and her highly motivated attitude and attention to detail has helped her to achieve this amazing accolade. We wish her every success for the future.”
Helen has now completed her level 3 Nail qualification and is concentrating on setting up her own Nail business in Skelmersdale.
