A group of adult photography learners from Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College have teamed up to arrange a photography sale in aid of Queenscourt Hospice in Kew, Southport.
The group members were inspired by one of their fellow students, Jim Abel - a 70 year old Ormskirk resident who joined the class in September hoping to obtain his first, official photography qualification, having been an avid photographer since taking up the hobby whilst undertaking National Service back in the 1950. Unfortunately, Jim, suffering cancer, was forced to leave the course when he became too ill.
Fellow learners, Tina Ruddick and Lindsay Panting were so inspired by Jim's lifetime of photography experience and his clear passion for life that they decided to channel their enthusiasm into raising money. They couldn’t think of a better way of doing this than through the sale of their photographs, with all proceeds going to the Hospice that Jim is currently attending.
The students have named themselves, 'Elpis Photography', 'Elpis' being the Greek goddess of hope. Elpis Photography will take centre stage in Ormskirk Town Centre Market on Thursday 1 July, 9am - 5.30pm hoping to raise money to help the Hospice support Jim and other cancer sufferers.
Lindsay Panting commented “We would love as many people as possible come along and see the collection of outstanding, high quality photographs donated by various students, college tutors and of course, Jim himself. There will be a wide variety of images, from local scenery of Ormskirk and the surrounding areas, to flower and abstract shots. You will be able to purchase an original, signed print in a size to suit your home or office, whilst also supporting a great local charity. You may also wish to take advantage of the extra-special offer of having a professional portrait shot taken at the stall - both children and adults are welcome!”
If you can't make it on the day, don't worry as images can also be purchased online at www.elpisphotography.com. 100% of proceeds will go to the Queenscourt Hopsice.
Elpis looks forward to greeting all of you who can help give hope to those supported by the Hospice.
