Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College Performing Arts student, Megan Owen, 18, has been using her free time combining her college studies with organising a charity fundraising gig and raffle at the Railway Tavern (Old Skelmersdale) with all proceeds going towards Queenscourt Hospice (Registered Charity 518801).
Megan is currently studying Performing Arts at the college and has a passion for event organising, and hopes to become an event planner after completion of her studies. Combining her love of performing arts and event planning, she hopes to use her performing arts qualifications to develop a different career path in event planning, and thus being able to arrange events that would allow local people to perform their talents in such nights as her first attempt at the Railway Tavern.
The gig, taking place on Thursday 4 March from 7:30pm onwards will feature local artists and bands from all music genres performing many well known track favourites, as well as original music, finally there will be an open mic session where anyone is invited to showcase their vocal talents. As well as a bowl of chilli and rice on offer for those attending, there will also be a raffle with the main prizes including a Guitar & Stand, and a Mic stand and Amp, both of which were donated by ‘Gaz Gaskells Music Store’ of Westgate, Skelmersdale. Tickets are just £3 and can be purchased on the door or at anytime up to the date from the Railway Tavern.
Megan commented that arranging the event had been “a great, yet initially daunting experience. However I’ve now managed to gain lots of new contacts from arranging the event and now hope that we can raise a good sum of money for Queenscourt Hospice. The gig couldn’t have been put together without the support of many local businesses. I hope lots of people can come down on the night and have a good time whilst raising some money for a good cause”.
