College goes green
Students and staff at Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College have recently gone green as they launched a brand new waste recycling initiative across all three campuses. The college has teamed up with B&M Waste Services to recycle paper, aluminium and plastics.
The scheme will result in the recycling of approximately 95% of general waste, and the college will receive Recycling Performance Certificates to evidence their performance.
Learners will not only have the opportunity to participate in making the college greener, but will also have the chance to attend educational visits to the recycling plant and learn about the issues of recycling, sustainability and carbon emissions.
Louise Dawson, Principal at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College, commented “Our college takes environmental issues very seriously. We are delighted to introduce this brand new waste recycling initiative which is a crucial part of our long term plans for sustainability. It is vital that we do our part in ensuring a greener planet for our future generations.”
Vicki Hulse, Marketing Manager at B&M Waste Services, added “We are pleased take this opportunity to work in partnership with Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College. Together we now utilize the very latest recycling technologies to successfully manage the various waste streams associated with the Further Education working environment.
Our partnership also provides the opportunity for all users of each campus to learn the latest disciplines in best-practice recycling behaviour.”
