Physio Phenomenon Takes Care of Event

Sports students from Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College have recently attended a north-west rugby ten-a-side tournament held by Runshaw College at Tarleton Rugby Club. The regional event saw 14 colleges compete with over 20 matches and over 200 spectators and players alike.

As can be expected with such an event, minor injuries were a plenty and the team of 18 students were on hand to deliver assistance when needed to allow speedy re-entry back into the game for the players.

Tournament organiser James McKeown commented “the manner in which the sports students dealt with these injuries was a credit to your standards and the sports department at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College”.

Sports tutor Steve McDonald explained that “the event gave the students an opportunity to put into practice the specialist sports rehabilitation techniques they have learned throughout the year. They were on hand efficiently and effectively throughout the day and were a credit to themselves and the college”.

As a result of the success of the day, Steve and his team of students have now been invited to the North of England rugby ten-a-side competition in August.

From this September, Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College will be offering a brand new foundation degree in Science Sports Training and Rehabilitation. This course is ideal for those who wish to work in the sports and fitness industry, who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in the specialist areas of sports rehabilitation (Foundation Degree) & Sports Therapy (BSc).
