Staff and Students at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College joined in with the rest of the nation on Friday 13 March, raising in excess of £500 for the annual fundraising telethon, Comic Relief.
A wide and varied range of activities took place at the Westbank Campus, Ormskirk Campus and the West Lancashire Construction Academy – all coordinated by the students themselves.
Fundraising events included; Motor Vehicle students at the West Lancashire Construction Academy dressed up as cheerleaders (boys and girls alike!), collecting money around the Skelmersdale area and raising over £300; Travel and Tourism students based in Ormskirk themed their day on wild hair do’s and raised money around Ormskirk, collecting over £100.
Over at the Westbank Campus several events took place including a car wash by Choices staff and students, staff tombola and wear red for work theme, Public Services students took the painful route to fundraising by sacrificing their leg hair – experiencing a complete leg wax in aid of the event. Meanwhile, the Hair & Beauty department saw staff dressed up as school girls for the day and students were involved in several fundraising events, including the leg waxing of male staff at the college.
Other events included; cake baking and selling from foundation students; a Liverpool FC Champions of Europe 2005 framed poster auction and Performing Arts students hosted a stand-up comedy hour.
Finally, the little learners at the Skelmersdale College Nursery took part in a series of events including painting their noses red!
The fundraising at the college will continue on Friday 27 March when Sports students will be holding a triathlon sports event consisting of 5-a-side football, swimming and netball which will include both staff and students competing. All moneys raised will go to Comic Relief.
Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College Principal, Louise Dawson commented that it has been a “brilliant effort” from staff and students alike with regards to the fundraising that has taken place across the college.
