The Frog Princess!

Three local primary schools have recently enjoyed Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College Performing Arts Student’s pantomime. Delfside, Holland Moor and Crow Orchard Primary Schools all attended and enjoyed matinee performances of ‘The Frog Princess’.

‘The Frog Princess’, written by Trevor Suthers, is a pantomime based on an original variation on the time-honoured tale of prince meets frog. In this case, there was a princess who was currently a frog, a witch who couldn’t decide whether she was good or bad, and various other unlikely heroes!

The pantomime was also open to the public for three evenings and was received well by the public.

Two of the stars of the show, Jamie Loines and Laura MacDonald we’re delighted with the success of the performances. Jamie commented that the performance had “given the whole group loads of confidence. We have all learned from each other, our strengths and weaknesses and worked as a team to make the performance a success”.

For Laura, who played the part of Frog Princess, it was her first ever performance in front of an audience and she found it to be a great experience, “I was a little bit nervous, but once I was on the stage it was fine. The best feeling is after the performance the children were pointing at me and saying “I want to be like her”, it made my day!”

The play proved popular with both the adults and children in the audience, with the different panto-pranks being appreciated by both alike.

Charlotte Jones, Performing Arts Tutor and production organiser commented, “The students all worked incredibly hard during the rehearsal period for The Frog Princess. They were able to experience working as part of a production team and performing to an audience in excess of 100. In some cases this was the first time they had ever performed to this amount of people. The audiences loved the performance, especially the primary school children who came. Everyone is now really excited about working on the next performance at the end of March”.
