Danny McMillan, successful participant of Skelmersdale’s Prince’s Trust Team 26 has become the latest permanent employee at Skelmersdale based specialist handcraft company Pendlewood Ltd.

Danny, who initially studied joinery at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College found himself in a position where he did not know what to do next with his life. After hearing about the Prince’s Trust course through the Young Peoples Service (formerly known as Connexions), also held at Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College, he decided to enrol onto the 12 week programme, hoping to improve his employment prospects. During his time there, he learned valuable key skills and developed his team working abilities on such events as the team’s community project and residential experience in Cumbria.

As part of the Prince’s Trust programme, Danny was offered a work experience position at Pendlewood, to which he duly obliged.

Danny spent two weeks with the company, experimenting with different prototypes and products whilst utilising his joining ability as well as the skills he gained through Prince’s Trust.

Managing Director Alan Pendlewood commented “we’re always keen on giving people with potential a chance to showcase what they can do. In this case it has been a great success, Danny has done really well and his work ethic that has allowed him to gain a permanent place here”.

A delighted Danny commented “I’m really happy with the progress I have made since I was on the Prince’s Trust Team, it’s given me the confidence to go out into the world and make something of myself”.

Danny is one of many success stories that have occurred as a result of completing the Prince’s Trust programme, over 75% of the young people that complete the course go on to progress to such positive outcomes like Danny.
